Analysis of Influential Music Video (Rick Ross- if they knew)

Representation and Mise-en-scene
A central Part of Rap Music Videos is being wealthy. In this video the rap artist (Rick Ross) is playing the role of being rich and due to this wealth is able to get any girl that he wants. By showing mostly girls in this scene Rick Ross tries to show that he gets many girls they make sure to put the Main girl K Michelle in the middle of the girls so that she is still in the spotlight because even though K Michelle is his love interest in the song she is also one of the singers so in this scene she is given luxury by being put in the middle. The way the girls have scattered across the room is to show that rappers can get any girl that they want and they can also treat them like rubbish and nothing will happen to them. They have set a part of the music video in a club to show the fun you can have when your rich and for rappers this is being able to get girls by splashing money at them and also because they are wealthy they can have lots of parties.

This scene Rick Ross lifts his chain to the camera to show that he has a lot of wealth and even though the girl in the video features with him she is behind him in this scene to show dominance of the male and also luxury is given to Rick Ross. The speakers in the background emphasize the deep base of the song and Rick Ross is trying to show off his song as 'Dope'.

In this scene the camera Pushes into Rick Ross and emphasizes the multiple chains on his neck the gold around his wrist and the I-phone that he is using this is again to show the wealth that he has he is basically playing to the particular stereotype of R&B music videos as most of the time what is shown in that the rappers or singers have vast amounts of material wealth. in the background is a bare area which kind of contradicts the concept of wealth that Rick Ross was trying to show.
