We decided to show our original video to our class and see what they thought the original people did well and what they did not do so well. The feedback that we received was carefully considered by our group as to whether we were going to continue with our song choice and the feedback we received convinced us that this was the song that we should use this song as it was very similar to our story.
These our the main points of feedback that we received from our class and what they thought we could do with the song and how the original makers constructed their own music video.
- All performance no story
The class picked up to the fact that the original makers did not really tell a story in their own music video they only had purely performance and throughout had only the two singers singing the whole way through.
- Hard to visualize meaning.
The class also though that because the original music video was all performance they were not able to tell what the meaning of the song was.
- Change the main idea of the pitch.
The Class thought that our story that we portrayed in our pitch was not compatible with the song or the lyrics they are singing in the song.
- The rapper was privileged in the video he received most of the shots and shots cut between both of them.
The class acknowledged that the rapper in the song received most of the shots of the camera and the camera hardly had shots of other people.
- Shot one from one side the whole time.
The class also thought that the music video was shot from one particular side the whole time and that it became a lit bit boring as the camerawork was really inventive enough.
- Wasn’t much cameras work involved?
The class also didn't like the fact there was so much limited camerawork and because of this they started to become bored watching the video as they didn't like seeing the same shot all the time and what made it worse was because they were all of the same person.
- Meant to be in the club as the lights were dark and the club lights but there was no shots of the audience.
The class were able to tell that it was a performance in a club as the mise-en-scene portrayed that the lights were dark and the club lights were shown, but they feel the video was let down because there were no shots of the audience so they were not able to tell if they were performing to people or having a rehearsal for a performance at the club later.
- Rapper wearing a big gold chain.
The class also thought that the rapper in the video fit the stereotype for most rappers and he was wearing a big gold chain to show his material wealth they also picked this up in his lyrics a as he says 'diamonds on my necklace'.
- All in the same location.
The class also thought that it was boring that the video was all shot in the same place because its shows no creativity and just makes the video a little less enjoyable.
- Do your own representation of the song.
The class though that we should do our own rendition of the song and not copy the original makers and have just all performance in our music video as they believed it would make our video boring aswell.
- Easier to do something different
The class thought that because the original makers made videos with no storyline or meaning and all performance we could use this to our advantage and we can easily make a music video with the song that has a different meaning as there's does not have one.
